Healthiest Snacks to Keep in the Car

When it comes to snacking in your car, nature has all the answers for you. Snacking on long trips has a bad reputation for a very good reason. It’s much easier to eat junk food than to eat healthy, organic food because the latter’s much harder (and more expensive) to get than the former.

However, there’s a way for everything and you can certainly take care of your health even during long and tiring trips. In this article, we’ll show how.

Nuts are your best friend - Nuts and dry fruits are the perfect snack because they are rich in virtually everything that’s good for you, including: Vitamin E, protein, carbs, healthy fats, fiber, minerals, magnesium, etc. They also improve our digestive system, which in turn betters our bowel movement and makes up for a healthy stomach.

Nuts are also the best friend of your heart -  Countless studies have shown that nuts are a fierce rival of various heart diseases, due to the fact that they reduce the levels of your bad cholesterol and help the blood vessels of your body function properly.

Did we mention that they help your brain too? - Eating dry nuts like cashew and almonds can improve your memory and reduce memory loss thanks to the high levels of magnesium and iron they provide your brain, which leads to proper oxygen supply. Disclaimer: If you want to go the nuts route, you have to make sure that they are all dry, and that can sometimes get quite expensive. But there’s an alternative for everything!

If you are on a tight budget, vegetables will do just fine (occasionally even better) - Carrots and cucumbers (though, the latter is considered a fruit) are vitamin and mineral goldmines, even in small portions. Carrots, for example, are especially high in beta-carotene, providing Vitamin A for the body which, combined with the high antioxidant content, helps reduce the risk of numerous diseases such as lung and prostate cancer.

Cucumbers on the other hand are in some cases, even better. They are low in calories, but highly nutritious and 96% water. However, in order to get the maximum benefit, you have to eat them with the peel. Peeling them will reduce the amount of fiber and most of its vitamins and minerals.
